I am going to talk about products that work for my natural hair. As stated, my regimen is real basic. I don’t(anymore) order expensive or fancy stuff because the same stuff you can buy at target and at the grocery stores is the same stuff that is really good for your hair. I had to learn that the hard way but when you know better, you do better. So let’s start.
I wash my hair once a week. I usually began with an hour long pre-poo process using coconut oil. Coconut oil is very good for your hair being that it is rich in nutrients and great for producing shine and promoting growth. I purchased this jar from Wal-mart. The other one is African coconut oil. It pretty much works the same but just from Africa. I purchased it from the International market. I cover and leave my hair set for an hour and then proceed to shampoo.
Shampoo: I am a big fan of Tresemme’ products. It is not even funny how soft and maintainable it leaves your hair without leaving any residue or build up on your scalp. I love the Hydratherma Naturals line. I have been using her products for years now even when I was relaxed and I love the results that come from it. It is all natural products and free of petroleum and mineral oil which are not so fitting for hair. The smell is awesome and you are guaranteed awesome results from it. Check out the website. * www.hydratherma.com * The conditioner is amazing too. I leave that on for 30 minutes and my hair is softer than a baby’s butt. That’s the only “pricey” product line I use and will continue to do so. 😉
Condition: It’s always between the conditioner that is in the picture above or my Tresemme’ Naturals or breakage-free conditioner. Lately, I have started co-washing and saw a lot of great reviews on the “As I Am” product line. I must say it is awesome and most reviews were correct on how great it smells and how soft it leaves your hair. It always promotes hair growth and great to use for wash and go’s. It can be purchased at Sally’s for $7.99.
Deep Conditioning: My Favorite part of my process!!! Okay so yes all of the products that are used in my kitchen or in my tummy go in my hair. I start with a base conditioner of Shea Moisture Deep Masque. That product line is the truth do you hear me? I usually put 3 scoops of the conditioner in a bowl and mix everything in the picture together. I am so thankful I started using coconut milk. I put more of that than anything in there because it is just full of protein and nourishment that my hair does the Dougie while I DC. It loves that stuff. So I usually leave it in for an hour or two. My hair comes out softer and healthier than ever. Oh yeah, I add an egg too. (Sorry my eggs expired so I couldn’t take a picture.)
Extraness: My best friend Ashley H. used Alter Ego Garlic Mask on my hair during my relaxed days and it worked miracles in rebuilding the strength of my hair. It made my hair really soft and feel all exotic like. So I thought hey why not use it on my natural hair. I don’t use it every time I wash my hair but I will use it every so often ESPECIALLY if I’m going to straighten my hair.
Daily stuff: So if I want to do a twist out, braid out, high bun, or any style for the day, I will make certain that I do it the night before so It will last me for hours the next day. I spray water and oil on my hair, add Shea butter to moisture and thicken my hair and then use the Hydratherma Naturals moisturizing growth lotion and if my hair is acting up I will slap some Kinky Curly Knot Today because she is going to learn today not act up. Then I spray with the moisture mist for nice shine and go about my merry way.
The others are just stuff I use whenever I need my scalp oiled, whenever I use flexi rods, I use the foam or lotta body setting lotion to hold the style longer, and Cantu Shea butter just because I heard it was really good for hair.
So yeah I am not a big product junkie because they WILL add up on your budget if you are not careful. But these things work perfectly fine in my hair. Now like I said, just because it works on my hair, some may and some may not on others because our textures are different. I don’t have a specific texture(like 4b, 3a) better yet I don’t know because I don’t care but I know my hair is really soft and can be hectic on holding a style because of its softness and disagreements with the wind so I try to focus on what can help it remain moisturized and shine. And these things helps.
So by me adapting these things into my hair, my hair actually grows at its pace and keeps on until whenever. So it’s all in how you feed your hair that’s how it grow out to be. I told you hair is like a newborn baby. How you nourish it is how it will blossom out to be. So that is all folks. If there are any products (in my budget) that I should try, I will consider doing so when I get a chance. And for further research on your own time, you can Google each product (food and milk included) and see which would be good nourishment to your hair. kk Toodles.
