Hello beautiful people out there! I wanted to come and share with you all why I am going natural for the second time. If you haven’t read my blog post about my Natural Hair Journey the first time around, You should check it out (http://www.foreverpretty08.com/2013/02/my-journey.html)
To keep it short, my intention was not to go natural. It was either get another relaxer and suffer hair loss and severe hair damage or not get a relaxer and leave my hair how it was. I didn’t know anything about “going natural”, natural hair journey, or Natural Hair Gurus. I wore weaves for a year and when I took my hair out, my hair was very thick and kinky and I had a huge amount of new growth. I cut the rest of the relaxed ends off and officially became natural. So that journey was at random LOL! But this time around, I was tired of it. I lost a lot of hair on a daily from Post Partum (after having a baby), stress, depression and whatever else that could go wrong. I wanted a change and to get my hair back in a better condition so I decided to cut it all off. I wanted a really short cut and the stylist I went to said in order to have the style I wanted, I would have to get a relaxer. At first, I was skeptical because it has been years since I had a relxaer and the last relaxer I had damaged my hair tremendously. So I went along with the suggestion and got a relaxer. My hair was fine and it felt good to have short hair again. But knowing me and the way I switch up my hair styles, I got tired of it real quick. I started to wear my wigs again just for the time being. In a two weeks times, I noticed my new growth coming out of my scalp and it was a lot. I mean I didn’t know hair could grow that fast in two weeks but mine certainly did. So I decided to buy my own relaxer and touched up my new growth about 3 weeks later. After getting that relaxer, I still wasn’t satisfied with my hair being straight. I even tried to do natural hair styles with it and it still didn’t work out. I was sad and felt guilty about the transition that I made with my hair. I made me a wig and wore it for a while. When wash day came around, I noticed new growth AGAIN! I was like whoa hair calm down! But from that moment, I had a moment and realized that maybe I need to grow my hair out because I can’t keep getting these relaxers so frequently. And to make matters worse, I noticed that my scalp was getting irritated from the relaxers. So I decided on the last week of November that I am going to transition back to natural hair. For 2 1/2 months, I wore protective styles to help with my growth and to leave my hair alone while in the process of transitioning. But knowing me again, I wanted to have a new style so I decided to get a Mushroom/Bowl Cut look.
I loved this look for the time being. It was something different and people thought that it was a wig because it looked that good! I cut most of the back off I had no hair in the back and the front was cut into a bang style.
To make sure that I cut my hair evenly in the back, I asked my hubby to cut some more off and he was willing to do so. So my hair was really short in the back. This was done on February 5th, 2015.
CurlBOX, the natural hair products monthly subscription company had a CurlBOX Dope Deal where they worked with The Mane Choice Hair Company and gave out their popular Deep Conditioner, Hair Butter and 2 bottles of their Manetabolism Pills for $25!! You can not beat that deal so I was one of the pressed ones who waited 2 hours to purchase but I am glad that I did! I started taking the pills on March 2nd, 2015 and decided to document my progress and hair growth. I must say that this product has helped with my growth because my Hair went from this….
To this in April!!
I know my hair grows fast, but this amount of growth that I received recently has been a first for me! I was very shocked when I washed and blowdried my hair and saw that my hair was touching my nose after cutting it over a 2 months ago and using their pills a month prior.
I didn’t have any hair or beady beads in the back and you can see here, I do!!
I was very impressed and my hair is growing back thicker, fuller and so fast! I guess Jesus was trying to tell me all along to go back to what I know because I am quickly trying to keep up with my natural hair again! I went natural again also because I love wearing wigs and protective styling I really do. But at night when it is time to take off my wigs, I usually put it on my Mannequin head and come it for the next day. Well with a toddler around who watches and copies my every move, I noticed that started to pull her own hair, trying to rip it off. No she wasn’t doing it because she was mad or thats something she does. She was doing because she sees me taking “my hair” off and now she assumes that she can take her hair off as well! That didn’t sit well in my stomach and I decided that I am not going to wear my wigs often and simply embrace the hair that God gave me. I want her to know that her hair is beautiful and whether it grows out curly, straight or kinky(she is biracial), she is going to love and embrace what God gave her. And I will do my job as a mommy to make sure that it is well taken care of!
I can put my hair back in a puff now!! Yay!! I couldn’t do that a couple of months ago! (Taken May 8th, 2015)
Whoo that is such a journey huh?! LOL! Well I am thankful for another chance because I know what products work for my hair so I will not rack up on products just because everyone else does, I will take better care of it by washing, moisturizing and deep conditioning every week, and I will embrace it just the way it is. From doing so thus far, I have been featured on Natural Hair Daily, a UK based Natural Hair page where they feature Naturals from all over by using #NaturalHairDaily or #nhdaily for the second time.
I have been asked to review hair products and a lot of people love my natural hair so much better, even my husband! I will definitely be smarter this time around on this journey and also document it on here, my YouTube channel and Instagram. If you want to follow along and be inspired, come on ride the train! 😀
